چکیده

Anomalous liquid behavior is viewed as a result of an increase in surface tension in isolated capillaries. Using a derived prime equation for this change several phenomena are treated including the strength of liquid bridges between solids, the lowering of vapor pressure, increased solubility, and adsorption-desorption hysteresis. Using experimental data available on thestrengthofliquid bridges and vapor pressure decreases, indicates the surface tension of water in micron sized capillaries has a surface tension of over 700 dyne/cm.

Structure and magnetic behavior of transition metal based ionic liquids.

A series of ionic liquids containing different paramagnetic anions have been prepared and all show paramagnetic behavior with potential applications for magnetic and electrochromic switching as well as novel magnetic transport; also, the tetraalkylphosphonium-based ionic liquids reveal anomalous magnetic behavior.

Contact mechanics for randomly rough surfaces

When two solids are squeezed together they will in general not make atomic contact everywhere within the nominal (or apparent) contact area. This fact has huge practical implications and must be considered in many technological applications. In this paper I briefly review the basic theories of contact mechanics. I consider in detail a recently developed contact mechanics theory. I derive bounda...

Liquid nanofilms. A mechanical model for the disjoining pressure

Liquids in contact with solids are submitted to intermolecular forces making liquids heterogeneous and, in a mechanical model, the stress tensor is not any more spherical as in homogeneous bulks.
